THE youngest and longest reigning women's champion at a sought-after wrestling school in Runcorn has made her debut in the Bellatrix 15 Queen of the Ring tournament.

Teenager Katie Williams, of Levisham Gardens, Bewsey, who has held the championship belt for the past 15 months at the Runcorn Wrestling Academy (RWA), was scouted for the competition while taking part in a training camp last month.

The 15-year-old, who is in her final year at St Gregory's High School, said she could not believe she had been asked to take part in the competition so soon after taking up the sport.

Katie, who only discovered her love of wrestling around two and a half years ago after going to watch a show in Stockport, said: "I have done gymnastics for around seven years but that's it.

"After seeing the show my dad and I decided to start – I just really enjoyed it."

It was during the early days of the training that it became clear that Katie, who performs under the name Jami Sparx, had a natural talent for wrestling.

While the ambitious teenager did not take home the title, she put on an impressive performance on Saturday and was supported by her dad Paul, aged 35, who holds the title of NXL Champion.

He said: "I was so proud seeing her up there as she has worked so hard."

RWA is run by Andy Baker who has previously made appearances in NXT and WWE.

The next RWA show will take place on October 2 at The Studio in Widnes.
