POLICE officers made 76 arrests as thousands descended on Creamfields for one of Britain's biggest dance festivals.

Cheshire Police confirmed there had been 171 crimes reported at the annual August bank holiday event in Daresbury.

The annual celebration attracts around 70,000 music revellers and ravers from all over the country to pitch up their tents for the three-day party.

Tiesto, The Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim were among the star attractions.

And revellers danced late into the night with music going on until 4am on Saturday ¬an extension to the previous licence.

The festival closed on Sunday with the site emptying on Monday morning.

Chief constable of Cheshire Police Simon Byrne tweeted early on Tuesday praising officers involved in policing the site.

He also confirmed that there had been 171 crimes reported at the festival.

More than 100 ecstasy tablets destined for Creamfields were seized by police.

Officers discovered the drugs haul on Friday during a search.

The drugs were hidden in bottles two-in-one Head and Shoulders shampoo and conditioner after the search was carried out at the VIP entrance.

Two men were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply.

A 23-year-old man from Southampton and a 20-year-old man from Hampshire were arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a class B drug following a stop check at the entrance of Creamfields.

Both have since been bailed pending further investigations.

Cheshire Police warned that strict security would be in place throughout the event.

Everyone arriving at the festival was searched as they came in and drugs dogs were used at the entrances.

Surrender bins were provided for festival goers to place any drugs or weapons into.

Before the festival started, Inspector Stewart Sheer from Cheshire Police said: “Drug use will not be tolerated and positive action will be taken by police.

“Anyone found with drugs or weapons will be dealt with.”
