TWO retired teachers are encouraging people to help them to create a special art installation.
Derek Johnson and his wife Anne, who used to teach art at The Grange Comprehensive in Runcorn, are inspiring amateur artists to design their own peace kite to celebrate Winsford Salt Fair.
The kites are part of the couple’s multi-exhibition art installation and will be flown during the festival from Wednesday, September 16 to Sunday, September 20.
Derek, co-creator of the Winsford Salt Fair art stall, said: “We have had sessions with people who want to make a kite.
“We want to see how many people we can get making the models.”
People can also build an origami peace dove.
The peace theme has been chosen to commemorate 70 years since the end of the war in Japan.
The project has evolved from an exhibition of paintings in a library.
Derek, from Winsford, said: “Each year it gets a little bigger again.
“We are doing this because we love it.”
