OFFICERS are appealing for information following a robbery in the Astmoor area of Runcorn.

The robbery is believed to have occurred at 4.30pm on Sunday on the towpath of the Bridgewater Canal underneath the A533 slip road in Astmoor, Runcorn.

Two men approached the victim, a 36-year-old man from Runcorn, while he was walking along the canal side and asked for tobacco.

The victim took some tobacco, along with a quantity of cash, from his pocket before one of the men grabbed the victim and took the money from his hand.

The second man hit the victim in the back with a sharp object causing a small puncture wound.

The first suspect is described as a white man, between the ages of 20 and 25, with a black goatee beard and a Liverpool accent.

At the time of the incident he was wearing a black North face jacket, black waterproof bottoms and a cap.

The second suspect is described as a white man, between the ages of 20 and 25, of chubby build, with a Liverpool accent.

He was also wearing a Black North Face coat and black waterproof bottoms, along with a black North face bucket hat.

Following the incident the victim was taken to Aintree Hospital where he is currently being treated for minor injuries.
