THREE Runcorn glasses wearers have been chosen out of hundreds of people across the north west as regional finalists for Specsavers’ 'Spectacle wearer of the year'.

Student Jessica Hope, aged 23, call centre worker Mathew McMahon or retired clerical assistant Sandra Bellfield, aged 67, could win £10,000 and a luxury holiday in the Bahamas if they win.

Glasses wearers have been showing off their specs appeal by sharing their selfies online and entering in stores across the UK and Republic of Ireland.

Runcorn’s staring trio was invited to visit the Runcorn Shopping Centre Specsavers store to each receive a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 glasses voucher.

Jessica, who is currently studying history at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston, said: ‘I’m thrilled to be a regional finalist.

"I want to change the face of conventional beauty because I think everyone should be proud of how they look. "It’s who you are and you should own it!”

Mathew, aged 25, added that choosing the right pair of glasses ‘really does bring out your confidence’.

He added: "People couldn’t recognise me without them so they're a huge part of who I am and I’m really proud of them.

"I was ecstatic to find out I had got through to this stage of the competition."

Great grandmother Sandra has worn glasses since the 1980s.

She added: "I love my fashion. Your glasses draw people to your face so it’s really important to make the right impression and to feel confident in yourself.

"You can’t just hide your eyes so you have to make the most of them."

Runcorn Specsavers store director Chris Graham congratulated all the finalists and said he was thrilled to have an unprecedented three regional finalists representing the one store in the national competition.

Chris added: "I’m delighted for Jess, Mathew and Sandra and this triple win goes to show that Runcorn has some of the most stylish and personable specs-wearers in the north west.

"All three look great in their frames and we wish them all the best in the competition."
