A GIANT challenge awaits Runcorn man Chris Collings as he looks to climb Mt Toubkal in aid of Halton Haven Hospice.

Situated in the Atlas Mountains, which span across north-western Africa, the 45-year-old will begin his two day and 13671ft ascent on August 30.

Halton Haven Hospice provides care to individuals in Widnes, Runcorn and the surrounding area with the aim to relieve suffering of people with cancer and other terminal illnesses.

Chris said: “My inspiration is the people that mean the most, my family, the people who I have loved and lost and those who have cared for them.

“I am a very fortunate person. Who’s life has been blessed with health and I try to be a positive force for good wherever I can.

“I want to salute all the people who have sacrificed so much for Halton Haven over the past 30 years.

“Those who live in Halton will have been touched by the exceptional work of Halton Haven Hospice.

“They provide care for adults of all ages who have life-limiting illnesses and also provide vital support for their families.”

Chris who has trained for the steep task in Switzerland and France said he will dedicate the climb to Dom Valdez who founded the hospice, Dr Dave Robertson a former director, the staff and volunteers.

“These people have made a real difference to our families in their greatest hour of need,” he said.

No stranger to a challenge, Chris has climbed Kilimanjaro for the Astro Fund and Karen Waller and also organised a charity football game at the linnets with John Bishop for the same cause.

Chris has also had help from friend and fellow Runcorn man Mark Howard as they have travelled to Wales to train.
