WADE Deacon High School students have been celebrating some excellent GCSE results after 'surpassing expectations'.

Staff say the commitment of students and staff resulted in 75 per cent of students achieving the top grades A* to C in both English and mathematics with 82 per cent collecting the grades they need in maths and 85 per cent in English.

In addition, more than half of all students achieved the very top A* or A grades in at least one subject.

Six students were feeling top of the class after securing A* to A grades in every subject, including Danielle Mercer, Laura Farrell, Beth Eldridge and Tyla-Mae Matthews.

The top 15 performers shared 145 A* and A grades between them.

Executive principal Lynne Fox paid tribute to the commitment of her staff and students.

She said: “I am very proud of all our students and would like to congratulate them on their excellent examination results, especially at such a time of great change and turbulence in education.

"Their achievements have only been made possible through the support of parents, carers, governors and the directors of the academy.

"To see our students’ happy, smiling faces makes their hard work and that of all our staff so worthwhile ensuring our students are fully prepared for the next phase of their lives.”
