POLICE today appealed for witnesses after a collision on the M56 near Runcorn yesterday.
A female driver was air lifted to hospital with serious injuries.
She was driving a white Kia Ceed when she was involved in a collision with a black Peugeot 308.
Cheshire Police say both vehicles left the carriageway at around 5pm on Sunday, August 2 causing considerable damage.
North West Motorway Police closed the motorway near junction 14 to allow the air ambulance to land.
The occupants of the Peugeot were not hurt.
The crash on the westbound carriageway caused long delays.
Anyone with information regarding the accident is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 728 of 2 August.
