POLICE are advising motorists to avoid the M56 following an accident that closed the motorway in both directions.
The North West Motorway Police closed the motorway near Junction 14 to allow the air ambulance to land, following the collision which involved 'at least two cars'.
The air ambulance has now left the scene and one lane has reopened but there are still long delays.
