HALTON’S only millennium green has celebrated its best ever free family fun day.
A team of volunteers have been managing the former football field behind the Norton Arms pub in Halton Village as a public open space.
Ferret racing, birds of prey, a baking competition, produce stalls and a dog shop were among the attractions.
Volunteer Anne Brennan, chairman of Halton Village Millennium Trust, said: “It was our best ever in terms of getting the community together.
“We had more volunteers helping us to set it all up and take everything down.
“It was very well attended and really good.”
She said it also gave the trust an opportunity to raise some funds towards the upkeep of the green.
The charity has just received a £21,375 grant from Veolia to do some improvements.
Footpaths will be refurbished and made wider to improve access for the disabled.
A new covered picnic bench is being installed and information signs erected.
