EXCITEMENT is mounting as Runcorn Carnival takes to the streets on Saturday.

This year’s event will celebrate the 1,100th anniversary of Runcorn.

Pupils from Victoria Road and St Edward’s primary schools will be interpreting their own colourful ideas on their floats.

Alice in Wonderland will also be brought to life.

A cavalcade of floats will leave Mersey Road at 11am on Saturday, July 11 and parade along Church Street, Bridge Street and Heath Road to the showground on Heath Fields.

Dance groups and troupes will be performing along the route.

Live bands, a belly dancer, funfair and lots of stalls are set to provide a fun-filled day of entertainment.

Volunteer Russell Warrington said: “We have tried to include something to suit people of all ages.

“Everyone is welcome to come along and have some fun.”

Science boffins will run children’s workshops.

The Model Aircraft Society will stage demonstrations of different aircraft with their own air strip.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, Army, sea and air cadets are also taking part.

The field will be open on Sunday, July 12 for the funfair, some stalls and majorette dancers.

Free parking will be available at the neighbouring Heath Business and Technical Park.

Volunteers have offered to help but more are needed.
