AN open day at Halton Hospital attracted around 300 visitors on Sunday.

People were able to see behind the scenes at the hospital and Cheshire and Merseyside Treatment Centre.

Tours of the operating theatres and the new urgent care centre and endoscopy unit proved popular.

Visitors also got to talk a walk through an inflatable colon to see what goes on inside your bowels.

People could try their hand at resuscitation techniques and discover how drugs are made with the pharmacy team.

The Red Cross created some realistic looking fake injuries.

Halton Stroke Association provided blood pressure checks.

Staff and partner organisations offered information and advice at a range of stalls.

Runcorn performing arts group Theatreworks entertained visitors.

The Mayor of Halton Cllr Ellen Cargill joined in various activities.

Chris Horner, from the communications team at Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “There was a fantastic buzz about the event and the tours proved extremely popular through the day “We had a great day with lots going on and lots of families brought their young children down to take a look at the hospital and the things we do here.

“It was great to see so many people come along and learn a bit more about their health and our services.”
