A BABY’S first birthday is being celebrated all over the world thanks to her favourite Disney film.

Widnes mum Samantha Nelson released her daughter Alethea’s ‘Frozen’ helium balloon from their home in Mottershead Road.

Five hours later, she was stunned to discover her phone full of messages from former Widnes residents now living in places as far afield as Oman, Holland, America, Germany and Spain.

The giant globe-like balloon had landed in Doncaster.

Carl Tierney found it tangled in a barbed wire fence where he works at Reuse Glass in Wheatley.

His partner, Janine Ogden Paul posted a message on Facebook: ‘Please share for little Alethia and her mummy’,

Samantha, aged 23, said: “We let it off at teatime with my mum Lorraine and sister Victoria.

“It kept going up and up and disappeared into the clouds. It was really odd.

“I was dead surprised to see loads of notifications on Facebook. It just went viral.

“The only reason this guy untangled the balloon was because he saw it was from ‘Frozen’, his daughter’s favourite film.”

Samantha only decided to release the balloon last Tuesday because it had not deflated since Alethia’s first birthday party on May 19.

She said: “We just thought we’d see how far it gets. I was only expecting it to land in Hough Green, not 94 miles away.”

She said she has been overwhelmed to receive so many heartwarming messages from complete strangers.

She added: “I have been through a lot of hard times recently.

“It is nice to see there are so many caring people in the world.

“The one message that really touched me was ‘May your dreams travel as far as your balloon does on Facebook’.

“I thought that was absolutely lovely.”
