A RUNCORN pub has been shut down after police discovered drugs on the premises.

They found substances during a licensing visit on June 19.

Officers used new powers to invoke a temporary closure order on The Windmill Hill pub at Warrington Magistrates Court on Tuesday, June 30.

Chief Inspector Deborah Hooper said: "I am pleased with the outcome.

“I hope that this serves as a warning to other licensed premises who believe that drug use and anti-social behaviour is acceptable.

“We are wholly committed to do all we can to make Runcorn a safe and vibrant place for people to enjoy.

“We will act robustly against those who commit acts of crime and antisocial behaviour and address premises that fail to fulfil their obligations under the licensing act."

Cheshire Constabularly withdrew their application for a full closure order after the departure of the designated premises supervisor and the co-operation of the premises’ owner and licence holder.

The pub will remain closed pending the appointment of a new designated premises supervisor and the landlord satisfies Cheshire Police about future management.

Sgt Rob McLoughlin added: “I urge anyone who is concerned about anti-social behaviour and drug or alcohol related crime in their community to contact us.”

Anyone with information can call Cheshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
