CYCLISTS are setting off on a gruelling 325-mile bike ride to fund a Marie Curie nurse for a year.

Thirty employees Howdens start their three day challenge in Runcorn on Friday, July 3 and hope to reach London on Sunday, July 5.

The company, which supplies kitchen and joinery products, has units in Violet Street, Widnes and Astmoor Industrial Estate in Runcorn.

Organisers engineer Tony Adamson and product development manager Adrian Heaton said the team has given up a lot of time to train.

Tony said: “This ride is a massive undertaking for our riders some of whom had never ridden a road bike until the start of the year let alone ridden anywhere near 130 miles in a day.

“Many of the team and their families taking part have seen first- hand the amazing work that Marie Curie do and we really want to offer as much support as we can.”

Siobhan Drane, partnership manager for Marie Curie said: “We want to say a huge thank you to Howdens for selecting us as the charity beneficiary of this wonderful event.

“The continued support and generosity of individuals and organisations like Howdens enables us to continue to provide specialist care and support to people living with a terminal illness as well as vital emotional support to families.”
