A POLICE officer who lives in Widnes accused of committing a string of sexual assaults while on duty is set to face a retrial.

Merseyside constable Christopher Hopkins, aged 41, was said to have targeted his three alleged victims between 2006 and 2013 - an under-age girl, a 17-year-old girl and a work colleague at Merseyside Police.

The married dad of Wickham Close, Upton Rocks, also allegedly attempted to arrange a sexual liaison via the internet when he should have been on mobile police patrol.

The jury deliberating his case at Preston Court Court was discharged after failing to reach verdicts on five counts of sexual assault and one count of misconduct in a public office.

Hopkins was found not guilty of the remaining count of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

He denied all of the offences.
