CHESHIRE Freemasons have presented a gift of £10,000 to Halton Haven Hospice.

The money will be used to buy a double bed so that married couples can spend precious time together.

Shaun Pollard, chief executive officer at the hospice, said: “This fantastic donation from the Freemasons will finally enable us to get something we have wanted for years but have never been able to afford.

“This is a specialist, extra large bed which gives all of the support a patient needs but also allows them to spend precious hours, privately and as close to their partner as they have always been at home.

“This will make a huge difference to our patients and their loved ones.

“I can’t thank the Freemasons enough.”

The province of Cheshire Freemasons has 5,000 members. Their charity work is renowned for supporting disasters worldwide and good causes.

They distribute more than £60,000 to charities each year and have vowed to donate money to every hospice in the county during the next few months.
