A SUBWAY has been given a fresh new image, thanks to a street art project.
Residents came up with ideas for a mural to brighten up the underground passage in Murdishaw.
The aim is to improve the shop and busway area which has been a hotspot for anti-social behaviour.
It is hoped the new look will make the community feel safer.
Lorna Cotterill, Riverside’s community engagement officer, said: “Lots of people are delighted with the art work so far.
“It seems to be having the desired effect of encouraging a sense of pride in the neighbourhood.”
Widnes artist Gareth Arrowsmith is now putting the finishing touches to the design.
One resident said: “It’s a great idea.”
Another added: “I walk past there most days. It’s always nice to see pictures.”
Halton Cllr Ron Hignett, board member for the physical environment, said: "This certainly makes the area a lot more attractive. I have heard nothing but positive comments about the project."
Riverside contributed £5,000 towards the project.
It forms part of wider regeneration works to be carried out by Halton Council.
