PARKING charges and fines at Warrington and Halton Hospitals are continuing to cause problems.

Motorists caught out by the system introduced last year have received a £75 fine from Highview Parking, the company that operates the car park.

Visitors say they are annoyed about being fined after typing in one wrong digit in their registration or not realising, due to poor signage, that blue badge holders now have to pay.

One pregnant woman who has already been fined fears she could receive further penalties.

She said: "The other morning there was a motorised trolley in front of the only working machine.

“I didn't have time to wait for someone to move it and there was no one around for me to ask.

"I am really worried I will get another fine because of it. I have appealed but I feel like no one is taking responsibility for the problems with the system.”

The expectant mum has appealed the fine with Highview Parking but is conscious that she will miss the two week period where the fine is reduced to £40 if she continues to fight it.

A spokesman for Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said: “The signage around both of our hospitals sites clearly state that everyone staying over 30 minutes most pay for their car parking and that a valid blue badge must also be displayed if parking in a disabled space.

“Anyone that experiences problems in paying for their parking must bring it to the attention of staff in the vicinity so we can help at the time. You can pay for parking at any time during your visit to us on entry or exit.

“Anyone receiving a fine must contact Highview Parking to discuss if they feel the fine is unjust.”
