A CHARITY is appealing for help from Halton residents.

Child Bereavement UK, which has a centre in High Street, Runcorn is urging anyone interested in giving up their time to come forward.

The charity is celebrating national volunteers’ week which runs from June 1-7.

Child Bereavement UK supports families when a baby or child of any age dies or is dying, or when a child is facing bereavement.

The charity also trains professionals such as teachers and doctors, helping them to better understand and meet the needs of grieving families.

Volunteer Sandra Duffy, said: “I love my role as a volunteer.

“It's a charity very close to my heart.

“It’s a privilege to know you’re helping and guiding young people and their families through their journey of grief.

“Seeing them flourish in an environment in which they feel safe to do so is amazing.

Working with the children and young peoples’ group has been very rewarding.”

People can set up their own fundraising challenges, help support bereaved youngsters or get involved with the charity’s local events.

There is also the opportunity to help out with office admin.

Barry Lyonette, who leads the support team for the Cheshire service, added: “We are hugely indebted to the volunteers who so unselfishly give of their time, energy, passion and commitment to support the work that we do in helping children, young people and their families.

“Their dedication has enabled us to reach out to an ever increasing number of families in our immediate and surrounding communities.

“Our team of volunteers has helped us in supporting our bereaved children and young people’s groups.”

Volunteers have helped to organise our various fundraising events as well as taking part in them.

Some have staged their own events to help raise funds.

One volunteer has offered regular weekly administrative work in the office to release more time for trained bereavement support workers.

Mr Lyonette added: “As we grow, we need volunteers to help us sustain the work that we do.

“If you are interested in joining out team of volunteers we would love to hear from you so that we can explore together ways in which you might support us.”
