A MUCH-LOVED granddad fondly remembered for his fun and laughter running a pensioners’ club is finally being laid to rest.

Arthur Owen, from Weston village, was 102 when he died on January 8, 2013.

He donated his body to medical science at Keele University. It has only recently been released after being kept for research.

His family now wants to let his friends know about his funeral arrangements.

Arthur set up the active pensioners club after losing his wife, Ivy who died in 1994, aged 81.

His granddaughter, Nicola Shroeder said: “He always treated the ladies to flowers and a dance, always wearing his dicky bow.”

Jean Allen from the club, said: “He was loved by all our members. I remember him doing the conga when he was 101.

“He had so much energy.”

He worked at ICI from 1939. Known as Snowy, he shunted steam locomotives until he retired.

Nicola added: “Arthur lived in his own home right up until he was 101.

“My granddad was a great character and is thought of often.

“He was very well known and always young at heart.”

Arthur’s funeral is at 1.20pm on Friday, May 29, at Bradwell Crematorium, Staffordshire. All are welcome.
