A TEENAGER accused of intending to kill a Widnes dad when he shot him with a double- barrelled shotgun has declined to give evidence at Chester Crown Court today.

Ryan Duggan, aged 19, of Flavell Avenue, Widnes denies attempting to murder 25-year-old Daniel Kennedy on October 15, 21014.

Simon Christie, defending, called two of the victim's friends to the witness box.

John Gates, who was staying with Mr Kennedy at a flat in St Michael's View, said his friend went downstairs after he discovered their water supply had been cut off.

Mr Gates recalled how Mr Kennedy had described what happened next.

He told the jury: "There was a scuffle in the entry when he met some lads.

"There had been a fight. A few punches had been thrown.

"Daniel had an altercation with one of them and he pulled a trigger on Daniel."

Mr Gates described how his friend came home after he had been shot.

He said: "He was doubled over in pain. He was in shock."

Another friend, Mark Lytham, aged 37, said Mr Kennedy told him there had been a chase and a fight when he visited him in Fazackerley Hospital the day after the shooting.

Duggan has pleaded guilty to wounding and possession of a firearm without a certificate.

He denies possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life.

The trial continues.
