PLANS to build 175 new homes on a former industrial site in Widnes have been unveiled.

Work is about to start on a £14 million development in Tan House Lane.

The land will be remediated as new roads, paths, green open spaces and a playground are created.

A mixture of two, three and four bedroom homes will be built.

It will take shape over the next two years.

Halton Housing Association will offer 133 homes for private and affordable rent, whilst Russell Homes will sell the remaining 42 properties on the open markeet.

Nicky Harris, development manager at Halton Housing Trust, said: “There is significant demand for new homes in the borough, a demand we are addressing with a plan to build more than 500 new properties by 2020.”

The Homes and Community Agency has awarded the trust £6.2m to fulfil its construction bid.

Daniel Kershaw, director for Russell Homes, said: “This is a housing-led regeneration of a large brownfield site to create a new quality residential development that directly responds to housing needs.”

A green heart will be at the centre of the development, providing open space where residents can relax.

The homes are being designed by Manchester-based architects MPSL.

Russell Homes will handle the planning, construction and delivery of the development.
