MOTORISTS are advised to allow extra time for their journeys this bank holiday as major roadworks continue on the Mersey Gateway project.

New work starts at 7pm on Friday, May 1 at junction 12 of the M56.

Lane one of the A557 /M56  at junction 12 will be closed from the footbridge on the Weston Point Expressway to Clifton Roundabout, to allow essential gas works to be carried out.

The closure will include lane 1 of the roundabout, between roundabouts and the M56 eastbound exit slip road.

The closure will be in place until late in the evening on bank holiday Monday.

Hugh O'Connor, general manager of Merseylink, said: "I would ask road users to consider allowing extra time for any journeys they plan to make this weekend, as there is a potential for delays."
