A PROJECT has been launched to collect memories of a legendary Widnes landmark.
People are being asked to turn back the clock and talk about their experiences of the Queens Hall.
A get together is being held at 6.30pm on Wednesday, April 29 at The Studio in Lacey Street.
The charity Loose has secured a grant from the Heritage Lottery to record the past history of this much-loved venue.
Jaki Florek from Loose said: "We especially would love to hear from anyone with memories of the boxing and wrestling matches or the horticultural exhibitions which were held there.
“If anyone has any posters, programmes or photographs, please bring them along.
“We want to ensure it is not forgotten.”
The building was originally built as a Wesleyan Methodist Church in 1864.
After a 50s style makeover by Widnes Corporation, it opened as The Queens Hall in May, 1957 and became a music and theatre venue and was used for a wide variety of community events.
It was bulldozed in 2012 and has now been replaced by new apartments.
Jaki added: "Thanks to archiver Alec Wynne, we have some information of the scouts' gang shows which were held at The Queens Hall.
“We would like to hear from anyone who was involved, and anyone who performed there as a child or as an adult.
“Whatever your memories are we hope you will come along and share them.”
All are welcome to the get together.
Refreshments will be served.
