AN Italian restaurant has unveiled a patriotic pizza to celebrate St George’s Day.
Pesto in Birchfield Road, Widnes created a red cross on a white background to commemorate the nation’s patron saint on April 23.
The pizzetta margherita was transformed into the national flag with mozzarella cheese and spicy peperoncino chilli flakes.
Pesto chef 32-year-old Lucas Bilek comments: “Our patriotic pizza was the perfect way to add a little home-grown flair to our Italian restaurant on St George’s Day.”
The saint's emblem of a red cross on a white background was brought to England in the 12th century by Richard the Lionheart.
