A WIDNES photographer has turned the tables and appeared in front of the lens of millions of truck enthusiasts.

Teenager Ryan Batty beat thousands of truckspotters from all over the globe to be featured in Scania’s 2015 calendar, which is sold in 100 countries.

The 17-year-old has been taking pictures of famous Stobart trucks for more than five years.

Multinational company Scania searched for truckspotters through their blogs and social media.

Ryan, from Hough Green, said: “I was really lucky. I am the only one from the UK in it and each year they choose different countries, so it won’t be the UK for a while.”

Two photographers from Sweden took Ryan and his mum to Cumbria to scout round for a photo shoot.

A brand new Eddie Stobart Scania R450 Euro 6 Streamline was driven up specially for the pictures.

They then shot a video at his home.

Ryan, a sixth former at SS Peter and Paul Catholic College, said: “Making the video was very nerve racking.

“I had never done anything like that before. Having the cameras pointing at me a lot of the time was certainly different.”

Ryan, who is studying A Level Geography, business studies and art, hopes to work in the haulage industry.

He said: “In the holidays, I go to Pex Hill and stand on a bridge over the M62 all day collecting images.

“It’s fun. It gets you out in all weathers.

“I’ve got thousands of pictures of trucks.”

He has even named a Stobart truck, Marie Denise, after his mum.

Nick Wallace, his head of sixth form, said: “Ryan is an outstanding student.

“He is a strong role model for students with an exceptional attendance and punctuality record.

“His tutors describe him as ‘a pleasure to teach’ and having a ‘high degree of technical skill’.

“He will make a valuable contribution to any career. He is determined to succeed.”

He posts his haulage pictures on his facebook page, Ryan Batty Photography.
