HALTON will be joining the 70th anniversary commemorations of VE Day. Friday, May 8 marks an important milestone in the history of England and the world.
It was the day, 70 years ago, when peace broke out and brought an end to nearly six years of war across Europe.
Halton Council will be participating in two minutes’ silence at 3pm and will also illuminate important landmarks.
Lights will be switched on at Silver Jubilee Bridge, Runcorn Town Hall and The Brindley to remember how buildings were lit up on VE Day itself.
The 70th anniversary of VE Day will see also beacons lit in towns and cities throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man as a celebration of peace and to pay tribute to all those who played their part in achieving it.
