DUTCH artist Vincent van Gogh has inspired Widnes children to paint.

Pupils at St Michael’s Catholic Primary School have been studying his work as part of a special project.

Everyone in class six was challenged to interpret his designs and enter them into the dot-art school art competition.

Art specialists from Liverpool galleries selected the top three from each school.

The work of pupils Issabelle Morris, Emma Leadbetter and Harvey Kirwan are now in the final.

Teaching assistant Ann Murphy said: “Pupils have really enjoyed studying Van Gogh.

“Many of them have discovered hidden skills.

“It has definitely given them confidence and a sense of pride.”

The finalists’ paintings are now displayed online and people are invited to vote for their favourite until April 30.

Art work with the most votes will be displayed in an art exhibition together with all the other winners at St George’s Hall in Liverpool from June 5-21.
