A loose pig was spotted on the motorway this morning, causing mayhem for motorists on the M56 near Runcorn.
The Highways Agency received reports about the road hog on the eastbound carriageway between junctions 11 and 12 and set up speed restrictions in the area.
The North West Motorway Police tweeted: "Highways are currently dealing with a piglet running along the hard shoulder of the M56"
They later reassured drivers the pig had been returned to its field.
@NWmwaypolice I reckon you've probably saved it's bacon 😜
