A WIDNES-born actress has been honoured for her career achievements back in her former classroom.

Maria Doyle was invited to return to Moorfield Primary School in Halton View to be placed in their hall of fame.

Under her stage name, Maria Lovelady, aged 26, from Farnworth, is currently playing the lead role of Helen Forrester in Twopence To Cross The Mersey.

She stars as the young daughter of a wealthy family suddenly thrown into poverty during the Great Depression.

Maria chatted to pupils about her performances which have included playing Juliet in Romeo and Juliet and Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz.

She studied musical theatre in Liverpool.

Head teacher Andy Williams said: “Maria is a live example of what children of today can aspire to.

“Since leaving our school in 1999, she has gone on to excel in her chosen field of acting.

“Not only has Maria become a talented actress, she is also a wonderful example of what it means to be a good person in the Moorfield mould.

“Without hesitation she was only too glad to break her busy performance schedule to come and speak to the children, offering her advice and tips.”

Maria is performing at St Helens Theatre Royal until April 16 and at the Floral Pavilion, New Brighton from April 19-23.
