A GROUP of 40 schoolchildren flew to the French Alps to learn how to ski.

Students from Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy in Runcorn and Ormiston Chadwick Academy in Widnes teamed up for the trip to Les Menuires.

Teachers said the freshly fallen snow made conditions perfect for the beginners, intermediate and advanced skiers.

Trip leader Scott Fenner said: “The ski trip was a huge success.

“It was amazing to see students being taken so far out of their comfort zone but really pushing themselves to do well and try out new skills.

“All of the staff and students had an incredible experience and although everyone returned home exhausted, they were very happy and had a real sense of achievement.”

Pupils enjoyed home cooked meals and were able to practise their French.

Executive principal, John Rigby, also an accomplished skier, said: “This joint venture proved to be an amazing success and offered all those involved a very memorable experience which will hopefully stay with them for the rest of their lives.

“We have many more joint trips in the pipeline, both at home and abroad, to broaden the experiences of all our young people.”
