A RUNCORN schoolgirl has donated her locks to young cancer victims.

Alice Willcott, aged nine, from Burrows Bridge, spent a year growing her hair long and has raised more than £1,000.

She donated her pony tail to The Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides real hair wigs for boys and girls who lose their hair through cancer treatment.

Alice’s aunt, 62-year-old Letitia Kearns, from Dutton, died last year.

Alice’s gran, Helen Williams, from Murdishaw, said: “Alice is a very caring child.

“I think what she has done is absolutely amazing.”

Her mum, Kerry and sisters, Emily, aged 14 and Grace, aged three, watched her having her hair cut at a salon in Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy on Saturday.

Janette Gregg, her head teacher at Gorsewood Primary School, said:

“Alice remembered what it was like when her aunt lost her hair during cancer treatment.

“She saw pictures of children who were suffering the same way in a lesson.

“She said: ‘It made me feel sad for them and I wanted to help them.’ ”

“Alice is a true inspiration to us all and we are proud to say that she is a Gorsewood pupil.”
