PATIENTS treated at Whiston and St Helens hospitals are receiving the highest standards of care in the north west for pneumonia, heart problems and hip and knee conditions, latest figures reveal.

St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has been rated best performer out of all trusts in the north west for the treatment of pneumonia, heart attacks and hip and knee replacements.

The trust has also been named second in the region for the treatment of patients with heart failure.

These results place the trust higher than many specialist hospitals in the region.

Advancing Quality Alliance, the north west’s health quality organisation published its six year figures showing the trust has continued to improve in key clinical areas since the scheme's launch in October 2008.

The advancing quality programme aims to give patients a better experience of the NHS by ensuring the highest standards of care are consistently delivered.

Trust chief executive Ann Marr said: “The trust is committed to providing excellent quality care for our patients and these latest figures show the quality of treatment that we provide is consistently high.

“These results pay tribute to the excellent work that is being done by our staff.”
