SCHOOLCHILDREN have had a taste of vocational courses.

Wade Deacon pupils have spent four weeks at the new £3.6 million engineering and construction skills centre at Riverside College.

They tried their hand at engineering, construction, electrical and motor vehicle workshops.

They had a go at challenging activities such as creating key fobs, taking apart mini motorcycles, woodwork tasks and wiring plugs.

Tutor Chris Gandy said “They should be proud of their achievements.

“They really impressed all staff members.”

Nicola Thomson, design and technology teacher at Wade Deacon, said “The workshop sessions have been a real success.

“Pupils thoroughly enjoyed their time at the college.

“The whole experience has been incredibly beneficial to them.

“Our staff commented on the enthusiasm of Chris and his ability to relate to the children and their needs.”

Further visits will now be arranged for more pupils.
