AROUND 1,500 pupils will learn how to save lives from emergency crews and safety experts over the next two weeks.

Halton Council’s Crucial Crew event starts on Monday, March 2 and will see children find out how to deal with various 999 incidents.

They will act out eight different scenarios with firefighters and health and road safety experts.

Halton Cllr Ged Philbin, board member for children, young people and families, said: "Crucial Crew is an awareness scheme promoting personal and safety education messages."

"This kind of information can save lives. And making it fun and entertaining makes it much more likely to sink in."

Pupils from 48 primary schools from Runcorn and Widnes will learn what to do in various emergencies at the Select Stadium.

Children will be led by teams from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Trust, Safer Halton Partnership, the council’s Children’s Safeguarding Board, Travel Training, Sports and Recreation, Road Safety and the Health Improvement Team.

By making the links between a number of different agencies and education, Crucial Crew aims to teach children in a fun and interactive way to.

They learn how to become more aware of personal safety and make a contribution to crime prevention.

It encouraged them to void being a victim of crime and know what to do in an emergency.

It aims to foster good citizenship and actively contribute to their health.
