A NEW project is being launched to capture the history of the former Queens Hall in Widnes.

This landmark was originally built in 1864 as a Wesleyan Methodist church.

It was sold in 1953 to Widnes Corporation and opened in 1957 as The Queens Hall.

A Heritage lottery grant is now funding a project to gather and document its past.

Halton residents are invited to a get together at 2.30pm on Saturday, January 31, at The Studio in Lacey Street to share their memories.

There will be drinks and nibbles, a short talk, and the opportunity to share your memories and put forward your opinions on what should be included in the artwork commemorating The Queens Hall.

Did you go see The Beatles there in 1962?

Or The Stone Roses or Happy Mondays in 1989?

Or maybe you performed there in a band, or in a choir, or in one of the gang shows, a dance show or a school concert?

There were wrestling and boxing matches, horticultural shows, jazz and classical music concerts.

The final event in April 2004 was a grand celebration of music.

If you can't come along on Saturday afternoon there will be other free meetings, events and workshops.

Residents can email loosemusic7@gmail.com or visit the Facebook page Remember The Queens Hall, Widnes.
