A HIGH speed police chase ended in a vehicle mounting the pavement and ramming into three parked cars in Runcorn.

High Street is now cordoned off as emergency crews deal with the incident.

Shopkeepers watched as police motorbikes and cars followed a silver car through the town centre.

Liz Howard from The Curiosity Bookshop said: “Two police bikes and three cars with lights flashing were chasing a small silver car.

“They went up towards the bridge and then a few minutes later came back, whizzing down High Street.

“Five minutes later, they were back up again.

“The silver car then came up onto the pavement and hit three cars.

“It could have killed someone.”

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “Shortly before 1pm, police became aware of a car travelling at excessive speed in the Daresbury area.

“A pursuit was authorised and the vehicle, a silver Ford Focus, came to a stop in High Street, Runcorn.

“A 21-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop.”
