A TOP surgeon has inspired Halton students.

Paul May, clinical director from the Walton Centre, who appears on the channel five TV programme ‘Brain Hospital: Saving Lives’ spoke to The Medical Society at Cronton Sixth Form College.

He gave them an insight into his life as a neurosurgeon and the hard work and commitment needed to follow a career in medicine.

Mr May, who is also the president of the Royal Society of surgeons, was joined in the master class at Cronton by Dr Jenny Mullin, from the Walton Centre.

The two esteemed surgeons spoke about some of the delicate procedures they perform every day.

Students then had the opportunity to perform brain surgery on melons under the watchful eyes of Mr May.

Jill Greenhalgh, science tutor at Cronton Sixth Form said, “It was an exciting and extremely interesting visit.

“All of the students found it enormously absorbing and inspirational.”
