A SPECIAL visitor dropped into a Runcorn doctor’s surgery.

Father Christmas called into Hallwood Health Centre for an NHS health check.

June Rhodes, nurse clinician and partner at Brookvale Practice said: “Father Christmas set a great example today in attending for his health check.

“No matter how busy you are, taking just half an hour get your health check could save your life.”

Following his health check, the team offered Father Christmas some help and advice on how he could lead a healthier lifestyle in the future and reduce his risk of serious illness and make sure he’s still around to bring joy and laughter to children for years to come.

Father Christmas also joined the team for a Christmas sing-a-long in the wellbeing garden.

NHS Health Checks are offered to people aged between 40 and 74 once every five years.

Even though you may be feeling great, if you’re over 40, you have an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney disease , diabetes and dementia.

If your GP or health trainer sees warning signs of any of these, then together you can do something about it.

The check takes around 20-30 minutes and is based on straightforward questions and measurements such as age, gender, family history, height, weight and blood pressure. There will also be a simple blood test to measure your cholesterol level.

Following the check, you will receive free personalised advice about what you can do to stay healthy.

If you’ve had an invitation letter from your GP, simply call your surgery to book an appointment.
