A NEWLY refurbished reception class has opened at Simms Cross Primary School in Widnes.

It is a hive of activity as 30 pupils now have lots of new resources.

Head teacher Lesley Feakes said: “Children have access to a wide range of activities and resources including their own outdoor learning area.

“During the day there is a clear focus on early number and writing skills alongside lots of opportunties to play together and have fun.”

The school in Kingsway was deemed good in all areas in an Ofsted inspection in June, 2014.

Inspector Lyn Pender said: “Children thrive in the early years foundation stage. They make at least good progress from their starting points so that by the time they leave the reception class, they are ready and eager to keep on making progress in year one.

“The motto ‘Shoot for the moon and you will land among the stars’, is displayed prominently throughout the school and demonstrates the high aspirations held by leaders and staff for the pupils of Simms Cross.”
