A CHARITY claims Halton households could save £75 a year if they understood their heating controls better and checked they were on the best energy deals.

Halton Citizens Advice Bureau is urging residents to take practical steps to cut their fuel bills and use their heating controls correctly.

Hitesh Patel, chief executive of Halton CAB, said: “In the last four years, households have seen their energy costs rise by a third, at seven times the rate of wages.

“Last year, around 300 people sought help from Halton CAB with fuel debts. “We know many families are worried that they won’t be able to heat their homes as winter approaches. “We’re urging people to check their energy tariff, switch suppliers and insulate their homes.

“Another way to save money is to learn how to use your central heating control systems.” Halton CAB is offering one-to-one sessions with a money skills adviser to help residents manage their household budgets and find cheaper deals.
