RUNCORN East station has been given a facelift, thanks to volunteers and schoolchildren.
A garden has been created near the station building in Murdishaw.
Bat boxes have been made and erected around the platforms and signs reminding passengers not to drop litter have been installed.
The improvements have been designed to turn Runcorn East into a wildlife friendly station creating a more pleasant environment for commuters.
The project was funded by chemical manufacturer Ineos ChlorVinyls through the Landfill Communities Fund, as part of The Mersey Forest.
It was co-ordinated by Halton Council’s community team and Northern Rail Users Group with support from Norton Priory staff.
Janet Ward of Ineos ChlorVinyls said: “These improvements will enable people from all sections of the community to enjoy visiting this historic train station.
“It’s great to see such an improvement in the station’s green space.”
