YOUNG carers who often who give up their own dreams to help others need volunteer drivers to help them reach their full potential.

Around 400 young people in Halton look after relatives at home.

Joining clubs or making medical appointments can often be difficult for a young carer because of their responsibilities.

Having a volunteer driver would enable them to participate in more activities and help them to see their GP on time.

Volunteer Mark Allen, aged 42, of Widnes, said: "You can help by giving as little or as much time as you like. This can be once a week or once a month but any time that is given would be appreciated.”

Halton Clr Ged Philbin, board member for children and young people, said: “There are many services available for young carers in Halton but accessing them can be hard for young people.”

All volunteer drivers will be given mileage expenses.
