VISITORS can step back in time this weekend and travel on an old Widnes bus.

A 1961 Halton Transport bus is offering free trips to a vintage rally at Victoria Park from 10am to 6pm on Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29.

The bus which was donated to the North West Museum of Transport in 1978 will be operating 10am to 6pm, with the last bus leaving Victoria Park at 5.40pm to ferry event-goers to the fun.

It will ferry people from the municipal building in Kingsway to the park in Farifield Road.

More than 50,000 visitors are expected to attend the rally, a partnership between Halton Council and Halton Clinical Commissioning Group.

A full size replica Spitfire Mark lX will be on display beside classic cars, motorbikes, steam engines and stalls.

Halton Clr Eddie Jones, board member for events, said: “Come and enjoy this fantastic free family day out that has something for all ages.

"You can see a wide variety of classic cars and bikes. You may spot some that you recognise from your youth.

“There will be vintage fair organs large and small from all over Britain and afar as well as miniature steam engine, perfect replicas of their bigger cousins.”
