Widnes Market was turned into an ancient trading post as it hosted a pirate day.
Stallholders dressed up as bucaneers to create a seafaring atmosphere.
Children who came in costume received a swag bag containing gold covered chocolate coins and could go to a facepainter to have a free skull and crossbone tattoo.
The Port Sunlight Sea Dogs, Marrow Bones and Yesterdays Men, who all perform at Liverpool’s Festival of the Sea entertained shoppers.
It is estimated that more than 13,000 people enjoyed the event on Friday.
Halton Cllr Ron Hignett, board member for the town centre, said: "All the entertainment was free and all you needed to do was come down to Widnes Market and enjoy the day and see the booty on sale at the stalls.
“It was a great adventure for the traders and shoppers.”
