RUNCORN MP Graham Evans has welcomed the latest figures which show that people claiming job seekers allowance in his constituency is at an all time low.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics show that the rate has fallen to its lowest recorded rate of 2.1 per cent for the whole Weaver Vale population, compared to 2.3 per cent in January 2006.

Mr Evans said: “These new statistics show that huge progress being made to the quality of life for people across Weaver Vale.

“The employment rate has improved beyond pre-recession levels and that is great news for individuals, families and business across the constituency.

“The latest statistics show that our economy has dramatically improved under this government and that is having an impact across all sections of our society.”

He said the figures means that there more than 900 fewer people seeking work, and instead bringing home a regular pay packet.

Jobs are also being created for young people across Weaver Vale, where the latest figures show that the number of young people aged 14-18 claiming job seekers allowance has dropped by 49 per cent since 2010.

Mr Evans added: “This government has a long-term plan to build a healthier economy in Britain helping businesses to create more jobs and ensuring more people across Weaver Vale and the whole country have the skills they need to get a job.

“That is why I have run three successful jobs fairs to connect people with the businesses and opportunities to build their futures using their skills, talent and potential.”

His jobs fair attracted more than 300 unemployed people of all ages to Daresbury Science Innovation Centre last year.
