AN Italian restaurant in Widnes is taking part in the world’s biggest coffee morning for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Pesto on Birchfield Road will be serving tea, coffee and homemade cakes from 9.30am to 11.30am on Friday, September 26, in return for donations.

General manager Mel Mooney said: “We’re very excited to back such a worthwhile cause by giving away a variety of homemade cakes made by members of staff for charitable contributions.”

Staff held their own bake-off earlier this month when they were challenged to convert a £20 donation into as much money as possible for Macmillan.

Employees made cup cakes and sponges to support the company’s chosen charity for 2014.

Mel added: “We’re so glad so many people have already shown their support for the fantastic work Macmillan Cancer Support does on a daily basis by donating for our cakes.

“We hope to raise even more over the coming weeks ahead of our very special coffee morning event.

“Everyone is welcome to drop in to our coffee morning. and we look forward to the team and local community all enjoying a piece of cake together.”

Donations make up 98 per cent of Macmillan’s income. The charity helps people living with cancer and their families giving them essential medical, practical and emotional support.

A donation of £25 can pay for a Macmillan nurse’s support for an hour.
