MORE road closures have been announced today to pave the way for the £600 million Mersey Gateway.

Six months of roadworks are to begin at junction 12 of the M56 on October 1.

Lane one on all approaches to the roundabout will be closed intermittently between 9.30am and 3.30pm for the construction of a retaining wall.

Bridge builder Merseylink has apologised for any delays and disruption but says the work is vital for the new bridge.

The Weston Link eastbound from the Weston Point Expressway north and south exit slip roads will be closed from September 22-30 for United Utilities work.

The busway will be closed between Clifton Road and Grangemoor from midnight until 8am on September 30. No bus services will be affected.

Boston Avenue to the Central Expressway will be closed for two days from October 1 for drainage work and tree clearance.

The A562 Speke Road will have lane two closures on the Ditton flyover for off peak barrier work from September 16-17 between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

A Mersey Gateway project spokesman said: “This is an overview of the planned work and therefore subject to change.

“The team may have to put in place overnight road closures and diversions at short notice due to emergency situations but it is our aim to provide information that is as up to date as possible.”
