A GANG of armed burglars attacked a man in a terrifying ordeal at his home in Runcorn.

The 43-year-old victim was stabbed with a knife and struck on the head with another weapon as a gang of up to eight men forced their way into his property.

He sustained deep cuts to his arm as they demanded his bank card and pin number.

The victim received hospital treatment and is now recovering.

The vicious assault happened at 4.40pm on Sunday, September 7 after the man answered a knock on his front door. He was forced back into his home by the gang.

DC Tina Jackson said: "This was a shocking attack carried out by a large group of men on a lone victim.

"I would appeal to anyone who knows anything about this attack or who recognises someone from the efits to come forward."

One of the offenders is described as being white, in his early 20s, 6ft tall and skinny with mousey-brown close cut hair. He was wearing dark-coloured sports wear.

Another is described as dark-skinned, possibly mixed race, in his early 20s and around 5ft 9ins tall.

He was of normal build with very dark hair and a round face with stubble. He also wore a dark tracksuit.
